Ninth Grade "JUMP" Program |
The JUMP Program at Fair Park High School directly addresses our goal to keep ninth grade students on track for graduation. The program design targets increased reading levels, reading comprehension skills, attendance, and provides motivating opportunities for students to JUMP ahead with the academic requirements needed for a diploma.
"JUMP" program teachers will teach reading in their content areas and foster skills and reading strategies using Accelerated Reader programs. Students will utilize READ 180 labs to enhance comprehension and understanding.
The "JUMP" Program for initial ninth grade students will:
Increase student achievement scores
Motivate students to attend school daily.
Prepare students for success in Math and English by providing two different sections.
Allow students to take Geometry before the 10th grade Spring GEE test.
Provide students the opportunity to gain eight Carnegie units of high school credit.
Provide extended time for learning activities.
Decrease the number of classes; thus reducing homework, tests, and quizzes.
Enable students to make an easier transition to the high school campus.
Provide adult mentors.
